New Contest Announced

Show your school spirit for a chance to win some cool prizes including vouchers for UT student season football tickets (20 available). Record yourself singing Rocky Top, post the recording to YouTube, and send us the link. We’ll post our favorite entries on UTFCU Rocks and enter everyone who participates in the contest. Don’t have a camcorder? No problem. Just visit our booth in the student center during student storm, rock out with us at the Mellow Mushroom, come to our tailgate party, or visit our main branch just off the strip on White Avenue and we’ll do all the work for you!

Everyone who participates receives a card good for a free music download (while supplies last). Early Entry Bonus - Submit your entry before the end of June and we will give you 2 cards instead of one!

UTFCU Paints the Rock

We’re working on several exciting projects over here at UTFCU. If you’ve looked through this site you’ve probably already noticed a few of them—like using Twitter and text messages to keep in touch with you—our member; not to mention the blog that you’re reading right now. Well, the excitement finally got the best of us and we cracked under the pressure of trying to keep everything to ourselves, so we grabbed some spray paint and headed to “the rock” on the main UT-Knoxville campus. We decided to keep the message simple; only showing the new UTFCU Rocks logo and directions for subscribing to our text message updates. I’m pretty sure the whole thing was repainted a few hours after we finished, but lucky for you the moment will be preserved forever thanks to our Flip video recorder and YouTube.

UTFCU member ThinkLia was able to swing by and grab some photos of our artistic creation as well. Make sure to check them out on our Flickr group! Remember, you can submit your own pictures by joining the UTFCU-Rocks group on Flickr. We’ll post links to the best pictures on this site and hopeful send some web traffic your way!

Digital Life: YouTube

It’s only fitting that we begin our weekly Digital Life series of blog posts by paying homage to the site that helped bring the online video revolution to the mainstream – YouTube.  Everyday, visitors to the site watch hundreds of millions of videos, making YouTube the number one video site on the Internet. Whether you’re in the mood to watch music videos, viral classics such as Star Wars Kid or the Diet Coke + Mentos Experiment, or learn how credit unions and banks are different, you’ll find it on YouTube.

The site’s extreme popularity has also helped launch acting careers and create the “Internet superstar” phenomenon. That’s why we’ve decided to use YouTube for our “Sing Rocky Top” contest. All you have to do is record and post a video of you or a group of friends singing Rocky Top on YouTube and send us a link to it. We’ll feature the video on the Contest page of this site and you’ll be on your way to getting your 15 minutes of fame! Make sure to check out the Contest page for more details. The first thing that you need to do is sign up for a free YouTube account. Go to http://www.youtube.com and click on the Sign Up button at the top of the page.

Fill out the form and then access your email account. You’ll need to find the email from YouTube and click on the link to verify your account. Once you’ve verified your email address, you can go back to YouTube and start uploading videos. To upload, click on the My Videos button under the Account drop-down menu.

Now click on the Upload Video button and choose the file you want to upload.
